From Wikimedia CH
This is the list of candidates for an official role at Wikimedia CH. According to § 8.2 of our bylaws, candidatures must be announced till 28th February 2009, so that the list is now closed to new additions, barring any late candidature as per § 8.3.
Candidatures for Board Member of Wikimedia CH
Petar Marjanovic
- Wikipedian
- Active in the French Wikipedia since may 2005, sysop since december 2006 (about 40000 edits) More information ;
- Active in Commons and French Wikisource ;
- Wikimedian
- members of WikimédiaCH and WikimédiaFR ;
- active in the Wikimedian community in Romandy ;
- active in the search for free content (images, books).
- Why this candidature?
- to promote Wikipedia and sister projects;
- to promote Wikimedia projects in Western Switzerland;
- to start working with Fred Schütz on the media relations;
- to act as a coordinator between Wikimedia-CH and Fr. There is a wealth of knowledge and experiences to share between the two groups, it would be ironic that chapters of a collaborative project need to reinvent the wheel each on their side.
Frédéric Schütz (recandidature)

- Currently press contact for Wikimedia CH in Suisse Romande
- Member of the board of Wikimedia CH since its foundation
- Active in the search for free images and content, particularly from Swiss administrations
- Active in the coordination of projects between WM CH and the WMF (in particular, in 2008, the funding of statistical services for the WMF)

- Active also in Wikimedia Italia
- Active in the coordination with WMF (participation to all board retreats)
- Coordination of Italian wikimedians and coordination of Wikipedia Day in Lugano in the 2007 [2]
- my vision: to have more participation of all members to projects and decisions, the board should have in charge most of all some defined actions like WMF's coordination, financial support, general vision and follow up of annual goals
Mourad Ben Abdallah (also as President)
- Summary
- Active in the French Wikipedia since March 2005 and administrator since December 2006 (around 36 000 edits): complete profile ;
- Active in Wikimedia Commons ;
- Active in the search for free images and content (Canton of Geneva / Tunisian institutions)
- Active in the French-speaking Wikipedian community ;
- Fluent in English, French (native language) and German.
- Personal
- My name is Mourad Ben Abdallah. I was born in 1982 from Swiss and Tunisian parents. I live in Geneva where I work in the chemical industry as a project coordinator.
- Contributions
- I began contributing on Wikipedia under IP addresses before creating my account in March 2005; I was elected as administrator in December 2006. I mainly contribute on articles related to Switzerland (Geneva in particular) and Tunisia but I am also interested in articles about history and politics in general. I also contribute on Wikimedia Commons, by importing self-made pictures (Geneva region and Tunisia) and free-licensed documents (fallen in the public domain). I have occasionally made contributions on Wikiquote and Wikisource during Wikiconcours (equivalent of the German Schreibwettbewerb).
- Activities
- As a Wikimedian, I had a contact with Patrice Delpin, history teacher in a Geneva college (Wikipedia page), who put in place a pedagogical project during the first part of 2008: his students made presentations about different topics and, after corrected, had to contribute in the equivalent Wikipedia articles (project account). In this context, I made some follow-up on the contributions, making corrections and sending some comments about improvements to be made (missing sources in particular). Following this experience, I organized and gave with Nicolas Ray a one-day training to a dozen of teachers from the secondary level in the Geneva canton on December 9, 2008 (teaching presentation). We presented the world of Wikipedia and possible solutions for the teachers who would also be interested to put in place the same type of project in their class (PDF presentation); a new two-days training is to be organized in late 2009, with the first day devoted to Wikipedia and the second to the pratical way of puting a pedagogical project in place.
- I have launched a contact with the cantonal administration of Geneva to obtain biographical images from Councillors of State and deputies to be released under free license (ongoing); an initiative will be launched very soon with Stéphane to contact political parties in order to obtain (possibly through a law) the entire production of the cantonal administration to be released under free license based on the model of the US administration.
- In order to formalize all these activities, I became a member of Wikimedia CH and intend to play a more active role in the Board.
- I am also active in the French-speaking Wikipedian community with informal meeting organized several times per year. This is very important to create a good climate of exchange and collaboration which are essential for the type of projects we are defending.
- Ideas
- to promote Wikipedia and sister projects, particularly in the educational domain (schools, colleges, etc.);
- to promote Wikimedia projects in Romandie;
- to promote partnerships between Wikimedia CH and institutions, in the example of the Zentralbibliothek Zürich;
- to facilitate contacts between the different linguistic communities.
Gion Hosang
Allegra.
Manuel Schneider (also as President)
Manuel is one of our founding members and CIO. He has quite some experience with non-profit organisations, and also in communicating electronically in english and german. Son francais est mediocre, mais ... :) He is also quite talented in organizing projects, and delivering things at an agreed time. Therefor i'd like to propose Manuel for the board. --ThurnerRupert 08:38, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Nomination: Thanks Rupert for the nomination. I was asked if I would run for board and I agreed if someone feels like he wants to nominate me, because I'll never do on my own.
- Activities: As a member of Wikimedia Deutschland living on the boarder to Switzerland and France I moderated the first swiss Wikipedians meeting in Zürich where the foundation of Wikimedia CH has been discussed, bylaws have been fixed and a provisional board has been appointed. Since then I follow and support the development of this young association.
- For Wikimedia CH I sponsor and maintain server space for webpages, the portal of all swiss Wikimedia domains (http://portal.wikimedia.ch/), do the programming of those and have visited Wikimanias since 2006 (Boston, Taipeh, Alexandria).
- Recently I got the project lead of the openZIM project which was founded by me and is funded by Wikimedia CH. My task is to organize or delegate the organization of events like developer meetings or exhibitions and to handle the budget like acquiring additional funds, accounting and controlling. And of course I try to motivate and lead the developers as far as needed, participate in the roadmap planning and scheduling. In 2006 and 2007 I handled the Wikipedia DVD online distribution (looking for mirrors, running a distribution server, hosting http://dvd.wikimedia.org/), this was the trigger for the free toolchain development for offline wikis which now opened out into openZIM.
- In the past I have lead and supported other projects like the free radio station for which I am still technician and made the live transmissions of the Wikipedia Days in Switzerland. Both radio projects I was active in I have left in the last time since I worked for them quite a long year and wanted to focus on Wikimedia.
- Personal: I was born 1981, will get married this year. I was educated by apprenticeship as IT specialist (Fachinformatiker Systemintegration) in Germany and studied applied computer science in Switzerland (Dipl. Ing. für angewandte Informatik der FHNW). I live in Steinen (Germany) near Basel and work nearby for a worldwide operating engineering company as IT Engineer / Europe.
- It is very easy to get into an argument with me, because I like doing things and not discussing them, though I prefer live meetings to plan things instead of just letting things go. But I want quick decisions and start doing things after the concept. So I may describe me as an inpatient person. But you should always keep in mind: I'm a person of very clear and direct words which might be understood as personal affront or missing diplomacy - but I always respect people, don't take that personally! I just don't like "politics" but clear words, a clear strategy and hard work. I will never put someone down on errors or mistakes - they just happen. But I might get angry at (in my opinion) unneccessary discussions. Just don't feel bad about that. I also accept - and ask for - clear words to me by others.
- some more details can be seen on http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:80686
- Aims: a small and incomplete list of things I like to focus on. This does not mean that I won't support other motions - I support everything the board agrees on within the scope of my talents.
- Community: bringing together the "swiss" projects, especially the small ones - fr:wp, it:wp, de:wp, rm:wp, als:wp
- realising a Wikimedia Camp
- creating and sponsoring flyer and other material for the projects which don't have any (but long for it)
- Board: scheduling and planning a roadmap
- realising a board retreat
- defining projects and budgets
- define a five year vision
- plan a detailed roadmap for 2009
- Technical: keep up and running which is already available
- try to get back the domains which are still grabbed by others
- get the first Wikipedia DVD of Wikimedia CH and openZIM done
- setting up a mirror system for free offline web content published using openZIM
- get a video converting and uploading system for SF up and running
- Community: bringing together the "swiss" projects, especially the small ones - fr:wp, it:wp, de:wp, rm:wp, als:wp
