Topic

On June 17th Wikipedia Day will take place. We need a gift for our speakers since we don't pay anything. My (Robins) suggestion is do print cups (Kaffeetassen) with a special design.

There already exist mugs with a German text [1] or English text [2]. Both the English and the German mugs lack of fantasy - it's just a blank Wikipedia logo printed on one side. There had been a discussion about a clever t-shirt though but nothing really ever happened [3]. The mugs already available are too expensive to be resold.

Time frame

Unlike discussions in Wikipedia we need a quick decision. I suppose May 31th 2006 is a date where we should have a decent design. That takes two working days for purchasing and two weeks for producing and shipping.

Proposals-language

As Ilario correctly stated, mugs with a german text will only be usable in Deutschschweiz and Germany. On the other hand, I (Robin) wish a mug that can be used as a gift for our speakers. In a second way they can be sold on fairs or on Wikipedia Day.

I (Robin) vote against English mugs and for German since the English Wikipedia is x times bigger than Wikipedia in German and even bigger than Wikimedia CH. They shall invent a clever dictum for their mugs themselves - my English is not good enough for that.

To satisfy our French, Italian, Rumantsch and Allemanic speaking members/customers I can imagine to print dictums in these langugages. It would make sense to collaborate with Wikimedia Deutschland, Italy and France to increase batch quantities. We need two things: The dictum in these languages and the approval for a buy-off of a certain quantity. --Robin Schwab

I confirm but the prototype is very good and I think that also the german version could be succesfully used in other sides of Swiss or outside. IMHO the version in the prototype is less connected to the regional use. --Ilario 22:27, 28 May 2006 (CEST)

Proposals - "Spruch"

  1. Weisst du was? - Du weisst was!
  2. Freies Wissen - allgemein gut
  3. Schlag auf, sieh nach
  4. Hier drin ist etwas allgemein verträgliches - Freies Wissen!

Proposals-logo

  1. Wikimedia CH
    pros personalized for us
cons not usable with Wikimedia Germany, not according to [4], the CH-line makes the logo print smaller
  2. Wikimedia
pros usable together with Wikimedia Germany
    cons no connection with Switzerland
  3. Wikipedia
    pros well known
cons hard to print, no connection with the Verein

I vote for "Wikimedia" as the Logo -Robin Schwab

I vote for "Wikimedia" also. In any case "Wikipedia" could not be usable with its logo: or change the logo or change the name. In this case the "Wikipedia" name should be present in the other side of the graphic design (not the first proposal). --Ilario 19:52, 28 May 2006 (CEST)

Proposals-URL

Shall we have the Wikipedia/Wikimedia URL on the mug? www.wikimedia.ch?

I (Robin) am open to have the URL on the mug in a small text. But if everyone knows that "we are a homepage" it's not neccessary. What do you think? --Robin Schwab

Proposals-design

Note: The proposals have a resolution of 1500x549 pixels. They are in CMYK color range. This prints out nicely on cups of personello which is one company we could print them. The designs use the full space so that the mug is printed on both sides.
