Am kommenden Freitag ist der 15. Geburtstag von Wikipedia, der frei zugänglichen Online-Enzyklopädie, welche von jedem und jeder bearbeitet werden kann. Diese Woche feiern die ehrenamtlichen Autoren/innen sowie die Leser/innen aus aller Welt das freie Wissen und die Freude, welche damit in den letzten 15 Jahren verbreitet wurde. Auch in Zürich findet deshalb eine Feier statt.

Feiern Sie gemeinsam mit uns den internationalen Tag der Frau und erstellen sowie ergänzen sie biografische Inhalte in der Wikipedia zu bedeutendenSchweizer Künstlerinnen.
Der Schweizer Verein Wikimedia CH schliesst sich damit der Veranstaltungsreihe « Art & Feminism » 2015 an, welche weltweit in mehr als 10 Ländern präsent ist und mehrere hundert Teilnehmer anzieht.

Neue Spendensammlung für die Wikipedia und Projekte in der Schweiz

Ab dem 1. Dezember werden die Leser der online Enzyklopädie mit Bannern dazu aufgefordert, die Wikipedia finanziell zu unterstützen, mit einem besonderen Fokus auf Projekten in der Schweiz. Diese Banner werden während dem gazen Monat Dezember sichtbar sein.

Wikipedia for prisoners – an unexpected partnership between the swiss prison of Bellevue and Wikimedia CH

Since March 2013, prisoners who request can have an access to Wikipedia offline. The idea is to stimulate or to support the interest for education of prisoners who were, for a large majority, condemned to long-time sentences.

The Swiss Federal Archives and Wikimedia CH are joining forces to review source materials from the Federal Archives and publish them online. The first joint project will provide access to a photographic collection on the First World War.

Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 Photo Contest: Ceremony

Wiki Loves Monuments has now entered the Guniess Book

Within a few days of the end of the Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 contest, on September 30, the Guinness book of records designated the 2011 contest as the largest world wide photo competition. Wiki Loves Monuments 2011 brought together over 5 000 participants from 18 countries, who shared 168 208 photos under a free licence, to be used on Wikipedia and on other projects. In Switzerland, 7640 photos were uploaded.

In 2012, Wiki Loves Monuments reached 33 countries including new participants such as the United States, Italy, Argentina, south Africa and India. This year, over 15 000 photographers proposed more than 350 000 photos, which is more than twice the record certifies by the Guinness Book of records in 2011. Among these contributors, more than 11 000 had never yet taken part in any Wikimedia project.

In 2012, 103 participants participated in Wiki Loves Monuments Switzerland uploaded more than 1700 photos. Ten of them were selected for the Swiss part of the contest and will receive an award on November 24th. Ten others were selected for the international competition whose winners will be announced in December.
